Ohtani “Probably” Out Til 2020

We just can’t have nice things, can we? Ohtani was placed on the DL last week with UCL pain and was said he would be re-evaluated in 3 weeks. Guess what? It’s been less than 3 weeks and reports this morning are saying he probably needs Tommy John, and if he does he will miss the rest of this year and all of next year.

Ohtani has been noted as probably my favorite player, and I can’t help but feel responsible. Last week I published a post (for a different site) titled “Ohtani is Still Really Good at Baseball” and right when I finished, I turned on my tv to watch him pitch against the Royals. I was just in time to see him being pulled from the game with an injury. I’m the ultimate jinx.

Ohtani has been fantastic this season as both a pitcher and a hitter, and I have no doubt that the 23 year old will come back strong from this injury. As a pitcher that throws near 100 mph and has a history of elbow issues (had a stem cell injection last fall), it was always likely that he was going to need this surgery. I just wish it hadn’t happened so soon. I needed more Shohei Ohtani in my life.

We’ll keep you updated with any news on this injury. Please follow me @GSPTcal and check out our podcast @GrandSlamPod!
